Funded by the Michigan Health Endowment Fund, the goal of the Youth Physical Activity and Well-being (YPAW) project is to demonstrate that if youth (ages 8-14 years) are exposed to a physical activity-based life skills and socio-emotional learning program they will gain improved life skills, well-being, and school outcomes. The community partnership training program is designed to introduce youth to different leadership and social-emotional themes integrated within sports and physical activity, such as teamwork, responsible decision-making, and giving back. In addition, through guest speakers and field trips, YPAW provides space for and guides conversations on forming healthy habits and insights on how to apply lessons learned through sports to life’s different challenges.
