Work with the MSU's student Food and Nutrition Association (FNA) to develop Girl Scout badge programs for Juniors (grades 4-5) and Cadettes (grades 6-8) in the Girl Scouts Heart of Michigan Council. The program introduces Scouts to career opportunities in food science, nutrition, and dietetics. The Scouts also learn culinary skills including knife safety and how to measure liquids and solids, read recipes, create a meal based on MyPlate, and make and try foods from around the world. They are exposed to food science concepts, such as enzymatic browning and Maillard reactions. For FNA students, the program provides opportunities to share their skills and knowledge and work with youths in the community.
