MSU’s Office of K-12 Outreach, in year two of the partnership with the Michigan Department of Corrections, advanced from year one to year two with an eye towards continuing to elevate the craft of educators within MDOC. The office designed professional development that continuously targets areas of support identified by MDOC educators. The professional development framework was co-constructed by MDOC and the MSU K-12 Outreach team to meet the emerging needs of educators. In year two, the MSU K-12 Outreach expanded the work to support four distinct areas (academic, special education, vocational, and administrative) within the MDOC educational system. The support will be designed and implemented with the goal of improving the instructional effectiveness of each educator in order to support all students.
