Bookworms at the Broad is an intergenerational program that breaks down hierarchies typically present in MSU Broad Art Museums by making accessible connections between the artwork in the museum galleries and the lived experiences of visitors.

Program content is linked to exhibitions and invites families to explore an exhibition-related theme through viewing a work of art, reading a book with the East Lansing Public Library Librarian, and engaging in a hands-on activity.

Project Goals:

Amplify underrepresented voices through family tour activities

Event atmosphere that promotes inter-family dialogue and social interaction, providing opportunities for meeting new people and crossing cultural boundaries

Activities that encourage divergent responses, not step-by-step projects, giving power and agency to each visitor to share their own ideas and be valued

Audience:

Families with children ages 2-5

Families seeking to expose their pre-school age children to literacy, hands-on, art, and social experiences
