Bridging communication between medical students and High-School students towards pharmacology sciences. Teaching and learning-engaged activities
This is part of an umbrella of three projects to serve the High-Schools at the District of Macomb Count.
I created this 'umbrella' called "Community-Engaged Teaching & Learning*" to foster experiences towards medical education, which I aim to convert into an Outreach Community Based-Services program at the COM MUC site. I will describe them as three different projects in the following portions of this survey.
Project #1: *Interaction high-school students AP-bio/ human biology* at High-school (Chippewa Valley High School). Teaching topics related to immunology, microbiology, genetics, histology, anatomy, and pharmacology. I invited our group of faculties from the COM MUC site to work along, acting in their area of expertise. The direct effect of these interactions is that our future medical students start developing and refining their communication skills to convey medical information to laypersons. As a preliminary result, we identified that our students have impressive experiences and willpower to work with high school
students' communities.
Besides sharing experiences to motivate the young students, other topics programmed in our proposal are (note the links to include pharmacology classes):
• Self-health care and lifestyle (nutrition, exercise, etc.)
• Advocate for a healthy lifestyle to the public.
• Self-medication (here, I target pharmacology content).
• Awareness regarding prescription vs. non-prescription (Overt The Counter - OTC).
• Scientific methods of investigation (research methods and research study designs)
