Related to lifelong learning, AgeAlive has hosted the weekly Town & Gown Lecture Series for almost two years. It is another partnership between AgeAlive, the MSU Social Science Scholars Program and the East Lansing Prime Time Seniors Program. Because of COVID-19, the lectures have been delivered live via zoom. However, over the past six months, they have been simultaneously offered in-person at People’s Church. The program features MSU faculty researchers who present their research for about a half hour then open it up to 30 minutes of open discussion. Topics are widely diverse from Protecting the MI Sand Dunes to Dating among Elders to the current situation in Ukraine. This series has been a smashing success. We have an average of 30-40 attendees every week, most of them attending regularly. Evaluations are almost unanimously positive. Because it is virtual – the potential exists to expand this program statewide.
