This project has developed as a result of a partnership between IMPART Alliance and PHI, described above. In addition to establishing a statewide Direct Care Worker Coalition, chaired by Dr. Clare Luz, EJEC has a Coalition and Policy Steering Committee (CAP) that has developed a Policy Road Map that is guiding the Coalition as it engages in advocacy on behalf of direct care workers (DCWs). Again, it is comprised of a wide range of stakeholders including DCWs from Detroit, Lansing, Midland, the Upper Peninsula and other cities across Michigan. To reach the goals of the Road Map, IMPART Alliance sends out E-blasts every 6-8 weeks to the 600 plus Coalition members to build awareness of all of the initiatives now happening at the state level on behalf of DCWs, training opportunities, what members are engaged in to mitigate redundancy and counter-productive actions, Advocacy Alerts so that members can mobilize quickly to send consistent messaging to their legislators, and more. This type of coordinated advocacy recently contributed to a $2.35 wage raise for most DCWs, an increase that was included in the 2022 state budget.
