Policy Agenda for Michigan's Rural Schools and Communities
Goal of project is to identify and understand key challenges facing PK-12 schools in Michigan's rural areas. To understand how current state policies relate to these challenges, and identify potential changes in policy that would improve circumstances in rural schools and communities.
We have survey (twice) and interviewed superintendents of 24 rural school districts. Identified the following focus challenges: serving students with mental health needs, teacher recruitment & retention, funding, and broadband internet access.
