Continuation of a funded NIH, NIEHS K01 Career Award to examine the value of low-cost technology development created through a community driven research process in Flint, Michigan around water access, affordability, and quality. 2021 included the initiation of a 6-month pilot (completed in 2022) for the co-development of a mobile application to monitor water quality and share water quality information within the community. Led by a research team of 6 Flint residents, the project engaged 26 Flint resident participants in monthly workshop meetings to discuss the water testing and mobile development process. Meetings were held in Flint and participants expressed high levels of satisfaction with participation, learning outcomes, and confidence in sharing information learned.
