Michigan Agricultural Energy Council (MAEC)
Our efforts in Michigan has resulted in the dramatic reduction of mutually unresolved instances while surrounding agricultural states have continued to incur multiple case in recent years. Don’t get the wrong impression that stray voltage has gone away; Michigan still faces about half a dozen serious inquiries and at least 1 legal initiated case each year. MAEC has provided information, guidance and a standard for both farmers and utilities to be able to mitigate Earth-to-Neutral issues to the satisfaction of farmers following data/analysis protocol developed by the MAEC and institutionalized by the MPSC. This has developed into a cooperative (rather than confrontational and distrustful relationship of the past between utilities and farmers) association between the agricultural sector and utilities that has led to an expanded agriculture specific energy efficiency programs, three-phase expansion cost reduction, natural gas cost expansion reduction, demand rate cost reduction, webinars and seminars through MSU Extension, information dissemination, over 40 agricultural Michigan energy measure database (MEMD) included and the elimination of energy efficiency access restriction on residential farms
