MSU College of Veterinary Medicine Professional Student Panel with the BIPOC and LVMA Clubs
BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Color) Club and LVMA (Latinx Veterinary Medical Association) gave six virtual outreach talks to 82 Detroit International Academy (DIA) students. DIA is a public school for young women with a focus on biomedical science and veterinary medicine. The talk’s title was “Introduction to Veterinary Medical Careers.” The objectives for the talk were to summarize the steps to becoming a veterinarian, what veterinarians do, what animals veterinarians work with, and discussed example careers in veterinary medicine. Example careers discussed were shelter medicine, feline medicine, small animal medicine (orthopedics and soft tissue surgery-board certified specialty), large animal medicine, veterinary research, and zoo/exotic/wildlife medicine.
