Karen Salvador directs the early childhood music education programs at MSU's Community Music Schools (CMS) in East Lansing and Detroit. In that role, she selects and mentors early childhood music teachers, works closely with CMS leaders on grantwriting, and interfaces with community leaders and teachers at organizations like Early On, Early Head Start, libraries, and grant organizations (such as the Fisher Family Foundation). The goal for this project is that children and families will have the benefits of early childhood music education that is responsive to their family structure and culture, regardless of their economic circumstances. Every fall, Salvador teaches the MUS 465 course, Music in Early Childhood, and students in this class intern in early childhood music classes at the CMS.
