Community Music School-Detroit Early Childhood Programs
The PNC Early Music, Early Learning program and the Key Detroit Kids (KDK) program provide children ages six and under with an evidence-based early childhood music curriculum to support school readiness skills across social, emotional, cognitive, and physical domains. Both program classes are led by Community Music School-Detroit's early childhood music faculty specialist, Christie Lower. Lower has extensive training and experience working with vulnerable populations. The project utilized a sequential curriculum called Music Play, a research-based approach that emphasizes developmentally appropriate music engagement and interaction—often with parents and other caregivers present as partners in teaching and learning. Music Play is focused on developing children’s musical abilities and on increasing musical, playful, responsive “serve and return” interactions between caregivers and children.
