MCAN Ready, Set, Audition
Sponsored by Michigan College Access Network (MCAN), Ready, Set, Audition is a free program to support Detroit Public Schools Community District (DPSCD) students of color from low-income families applying to music colleges that require an audition. This program is led by Rodney Whitaker, MSU professor of Jazz and director of diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging, in collaboration with the College of Music’s Color Me Music student group, MSU College of Music Admissions, and the MSU Community Music School-Detroit. Student participants receive college departments admissions workshops, coaching/mentoring by MSU Color Me Music students from MSU College of Music and CMS-D faculty, a professional recording session, and informational interviews with MSU College of Music faculty.
